- Cooperative breeding: there’s the breeding pair (parents) and helpers (offsprings from previous years).
- Only 9% bird species breed cooperatively
- Crows might stay at home for as long as 6 years
- Can also start their own family at about 3 years old
- Eggs hatch in ≈18 days
- Altricial (instead of precocial like chicken): blind and helpless when hatched
- Can dive bomb whoever gets close to fledglings
- Fall: fledglings → juveniles, large foraging parties
- Winter: really big gathering groups called crow roosts (up to 2 million birds)
- Spring: back to breeding territories
- Crow funeral: many crows gather to check out the area, learn about danger, and form memories
